Holiness is weird, and a little awkward to talk about. I do not know the reason, but over the past 200 years we have talked (or at least written) less and less about holiness. This google chart shows the decline in the written use of holiness over the past 200 years.
Maybe it’s the secularization of our society. Maybe because it’s really hard to talk about holiness and not talk about sin, and we do not like talking about sin, specifically our own sin. We are drifting away from the pursuit of holiness being a cornerstone in our Christian life. In Leviticus 11:44-45 God tells his people twice to, “be holy, for I am holy.” When the Bible repeats something, it is trying to grab your attention.
When we pursue God, and his ordinances, we are pursuing holiness. This is not to be confused with the “holier than thou” mess…
