Matthew 2; Exodus 22:1-23:33; Proverbs 10

We used to talk of a “work ethic.” The idea was that you worked hard 6 days a week and you got ahead. Because the “work ethic” came from Biblical sources, one day a week was set aside for rest and worship. That relationship we have with work is seen in today’s verse: “Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.” (Exodus 23:12) How easy it was for us to first pervert that ethic and then to give it up! We became workaholics increasing the numbers of hours each day and going more and more days without a day of rest.
