Colombia got their first World Cup appearance since 1998 off to a winning start, defeating Greece 3-0 through goals from Artero, Teofilo Gutierrez and James Rodriguez.
Much had been made of Colombia’s chances before the tournament and how the injury to star striker Radamel Falcao might hamper their surprise dark horse creditanals. Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin was ruled out of the match through suspension.
However, Colombia sent out a clear message to all the doubters from the outset of the match. Within 5 minutes, the ball was in the back of the European sides net.
